CITY OF FAIRBURY, NEBRASKA

COUNCIL AGENDA

 

TUESDAY, AUGUST 19, 2008, 7:30 p.m.

 

All agenda items are for discussion and action will be taken as deemed appropriate.  The City Council reserves the right to go into executive session in accordance with Section 84-1410.

 


 

A.     CALL TO ORDER

1.      Pursuant to Section 84-1412(8) of the Nebraska Open Meetings Act a current copy of the Open Meetings Act is posted in the entry of this meeting room and is available for viewing by the public.

2.      Roll Call

  

B.    SUBMITTAL OF REQUESTS FOR FUTURE ITEMS

Individuals who have appropriate items for City Council consideration should complete the Request for Future Agenda Items form located near the entrance of the meeting room.  If the issue can be handled administratively without Council action, notification will be provided.  If the item is scheduled for a committee or Council meeting, notification of the date will be given.

 

C.    CONSENT AGENDA

1.      Approval of the minutes of the regular meeting of August 5, 2008.

2.      Approval of claims.

3.      Approval of the July 2008 Reconciliation Report.

 

D.    PUBLIC HEARINGS

1.  Set Public Hearing for an amendment to the administrative subdivision regulations.

 

E.     CURRENT BUSINESS

1.      Approval of the appointment of Bradley Kuzelka to fill vacancy in office of City Councilman, Ward 2.   Term to expire 2010.

2.      Swearing in of Bradley Kuzelka as City Councilman, Ward 2.

3.      Approval of the Fairbury Civic Foundation handling donations for the Girl Scout Cabin and doing a press release.  Also authorize someone to request disbursement of the funds.

4.      Establishment of a committee to head the repair efforts of the Girl Scout Cabin.

5.      Approval of SENDD coordinating with Fairbury Civic Foundation on pursuing various funding alternatives for the Girl Scout Cabin.

6.      Discussion and approval of purchasing a lawn mower for the Park Department.

7.      Discussion and approval of accepting bids for demolition of house at 917 G Street.

8.      Discussion and approval of paving a portion of the 11th Street entrance to the Fairbury Jr/Sr High School facilities.

9.      Consideration of a request from The Little Blue BBQ Committee for a donation to sponsor a “State Championship” event to be held in the City Park September 5 & 6, 2008.

10. Consideration of a request from Fire Chief Eric Voss to close E Street between

     3rd & 4th Street intersections for exercise with civil support team sometime     between  September 7-9,2008 from 1:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m.

11. Approval and consideration of purchasing two sets of bunker gear for the Fire Department.

12. Consideration of a request from the Homecoming Committee to have a Homecoming Parade and festivities downtown on September 26, 2008 starting at 3:00 p.m.  They would like to block off E Street between 4th and 5th; also barricades for the parade route and no parking on the west side of E Street between 4th and 5th.

13.  Consideration of rescinding earlier LB840 grant to Fairbury Steaks.

 

 

F.     RESOLUTIONS AND ORDINANCES

1.      Resolution No. 694 authorizing the Mayor to sign a purchase agreement with the buyer for sale of property; legal description Lot 1, Block 3, Lindell & Hansen’s 2nd Addition of Fairbury, Jefferson County, Nebraska.

2.      Second Reading  Ordinance No. 2975:  AN ORDINANCE SETTING SALARIES FOR SUPERVISORS AND DEPARTMENT HEADS; PROVIDING FOR THE EFFECTIVE DATE THEREOF; AND REPEALING CONFLICTING ORDINANCES.

3.      Second Reading­ Ordinance No. 2976:  AN ORDINANCE SETTING SALARIES FOR CITY EMPLOYEES COVERED BY IBEW AGREEMENT; PROVIDING FOR THE EFFECTIVE DATE THEREOF; AND REPEALING CONFLICTING ORDINANCES.

4.      Second Reading Ordinance No. 2977:  AN ORDINANCE SETTING SALARIES FOR CITY POLICE DEPARTMENT COVERED BY CWA AGREEMENT; PROVIDING FOR THE EFFECTIVE DATE THEREOF; AND REPEALING CONFLICTING ORDINANCES.
