As the legislative branch and governing body of the City of Fairbury, the City Council's major function is to adopt policy, which generally takes the form of ordinances, resolutions, and budget adoptions.

It is also responsible for the orderly development of the City and the administration of various land use regulations, including the zoning and subdivision regulations.
