SOUTH JEFFERSON LANDBANK

MISSION STATEMENT:

The South Jefferson Land Bank is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to strategically acquire properties, and return them to productive use, reducing blight, increasing property values, supporting community goals, and improving the quality of life for impacted residents.  Our comprehensive approach not only restores neighborhoods but also creates opportunities for new businesses, affordable housing, and green spaces.

SOUTH JEFFERSON LAND BANK TOP PRIORITIES:

  • Acquire and consolidate (or aggregate) vacant parcels through purchases, donations, or intergovernmental transfer from public foreclosure proceedings.
  • Clear title to land and prepare parcels for transfer to a responsible third party for redevelopment or reuse.
  • Prioritize land for disposition or reuse, selling land for redevelopment to a responsible third party.
  • Stabilize and revitalize neighborhoods affected by foreclosure to remove foreclosed properties from the market, hold them for a period of time and then convey them to qualified buyers.
  • Economic Redevelopment: Acquire and repurpose commercial spaces to bring in new businesses and strengthen existing commercial districts.
  • Site Development: Assemble and acquire multiple lots for larger redevelopment plans including housing developments.
  • Neighborhood Restoration: “Greening” vacant lots through side lot sales and neighborhood green spaces.
  • Neighborhood Preservation: Addressing abandoned homes in stable neighborhoods and preserving property values.
  • Provide beautification throughout the city of abandoned and non-maintained parcels.
  • Support neighborhood development plans.
  • Supports affordable housing.
  • Leverage federal, state or local housing program financing.
